Palomo y la golondrina

Salí a recorrer caminos
Salí a recorrer la Sierra
buscando a la golondrina
tanto me hablaron de ella
De su canto lastimero
de su volar tan seguro
de su paso por el cielo
de su amor tan fino y puro

Iban por el sendero alegremente cantando
tres muchachos arrastrando a un palomo prisionero
ay vida, quien lo dijiera
un pajarito del cielo

La encontré en un viejo alero
tan triste que no cantaba
me dijo que no lloraba
por no manchar mi pañuelo
Sé enamoro de un palomo
una tarde de verano
Hicieron juntos el nido
rama a rama, mano a mano

The dove and the swallow

I went traveling the roads
I went throughout the mountains
Searching for the swallow.
I'd heard so much about her
her sad song
her flight so sure
her dance through the sky
her love so fine and pure

Down the path, singing merrily
three boys went dragging a captive dove
Alas, whoever said it,
a little bird from heaven

I found her under the old eaves
so sad that she didn't sing.
She told me she wasn't crying
to not soil my handkerchief.
She fell in love with a dove
one summer afternoon.
They made a nest together
branch to branch, hand to hand

Down the path, singing merrily
three boys went dragging a captive dove
Alas, whoever said it, a little bird from heaven

They came down the path,
three boys with their bullets.
They found the dove
singing to his swallow.
They shattered his wings
with one well-aimed shot.
The swallow remained,
weeping in helplessness.

Down the path, singing merrily
three boys went dragging a captive dove
Alas, whoever said it, a little bird from heaven
Alas, whoever said it, a little bird from heaven
